Milan Fashion Week :D

Milan Fashion Week: Top Trends

9g2.jpg
The economy’s status didn’t seem to worry designers for Milan Fashion Week, as they invested in enough gold to “restock the Bank of England.” Lustrous metallics defined spring’s wardrobe. Miuccia Prada said that gold was “one’s of womens earliest obsessions,” and her collection was true to that premise. Jackets, waist skirts and bras in cotton and silk were embellished with antique golden threads that folded the body.
The shows in Milan resembled some of the trends found on the London catwalks, especially with all the jumpsuits, all-in-ones and dungarees. Thankfully, the unflattering harem pants seen at all other fashion weeks were not spotted in Milan. Transparency made a comeback, again, with knees showing under skirts made of tulle, and chiffon trousers.
If you want to get ahead of the season, invest in gold. Mix several necklaces together for an atonishing oversized piece of jewelry, as seen at Dolce & Gabbana, wear your boyfriend’s pyjama shirt with a waisted skirt, and you’re ready to go. Oh, and don’t forget your heels!
up5.jpgup4.jpg
Ten top trends: from The Telegraph UK
Transparency Tasteful, never tacky; a hint, as at Fendi, Marni, Pucci.
Heavy metal Bring on the bling. Gold, bronze, silver, pewter, platinum at Prada, Versace, Armani, Burberry
Geometry The “Box” skirt at Versace; circle, pentagonal and rectangle sleeves and skirts at D&G
Cut-out effects Lattice, diamond and circular “peep-holes”
Spot, stripe and graphic prints Time to prune - flowers out, maths in at Marni, Pollini and Missoni.
Fringing The new embellishment
All white Dungarees and singlets at MaxMara, dresses/suits at Versace
Colour me Orange, yellow and all the greens, earth and terracotta hues
1970s/1980s Jumpsuits, batwing sleeves, flared trousers, blousons, kaftans, micros at Moschino, Dsquared2 and Cavalli
Neckpieces Huge, chunky, jewelled collars and pendants

London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week: Top Trends

london-fashion-week_1.jpg
London Fashion Week, which closed last Friday, swiftly climbed from one moment of high drama to another, since it was rumored that New York and Milan would ‘erase’ London from the international schedule next year. Luckily, an agreement was made. But the drama continued on the catwalks.
Here are the main Spring 09 trends from London Fashion Week. Let’s start with my favorite, and the British equivalent to Marc Jacobs. Madame Luella Bartley! —Melissa Alvarado Sierra

luella2.jpg
TOP TRENDS (from the Telegraph UK)
Iridescence and transparency Reveal and conceal in tulle, organza and mesh; tutu-looks at Charles Anastase and Roksanda Ilincic; barely there at Jasper Conran; shimmering at Emma Cook and Nathan Jenden
Orange, khaki, black, white, shocking pink “We’ve been tango’ed!” Designers love the Vitamin C colour (Betty Jackson), along with deep khaki (Amanda Wakeley), black and white (Giles) and Diana Vreeland’s “navy blue of India” (Richard Nicoll)
Extreme prints Inspired by pixillation, butterflies, Monet (Farhi), kaleidoscopic florals, Copacabana
The LWB (Little White Dress) From Issa’s broderie anglaise to Margaret Howell’s sheer shirt-waist and Giles’s sheath, it’ll be a white hot season
All-in-ones Overalls and jumpsuits make the leap from function to fashion (Jaeger London, Goldin, Wakeley)
Harem pants Gathered, droopy, tied at the ankle; best at Paul Smith with a French Foreign Legion/North Africa vibe and fringed scarves
Minis There were thigh-grazers at Schwab, Kane, Temperley, Jenny Packham, Nicoll and Peter Pilotti
Heady decorations Bee-keeper veils at Farhi, veils and bows at Luella, knotted fabrics at Danielle Scutt, Sahara Desert straws at Vivienne Westwood, metal Pac-Man helmets at Giles - get ahead, get a hat or at the very least tie a ribbon in your hair

Burberry :D

Top Designers - Burberry

Burberry is a classic elegant British fashion house; its distinctive check pattern has become one of the most widely copied trademarks. Both HM Queen Elizabeth and HRH the Prince of Wales have granted the company Royal Warrants. Today, Burberry's trademark products are its fashionable handbags and exclusive fragrances. The current Design Director is Christopher Bailey.

Burberry was founded in 1856 when 21-year-old Thomas Burberry, a former draper's apprentice, opened his own store in Hampshire, England. By 1870 the business had established itself by focusing on the development of outdoors attire. In 1880 Thomas Burberry invented a hardwearing, water-resistant, breathable fabric named gabardine (patented in 1888). In 1891 Burberry opened an emporium in the Haymarket, London, which still stands today and is the site of Burberry's corporate headquarters. In 1904, the Burberry Equestrian Knight Logo was developed containing the Latin word "Prorsum" meaning forwards and registered as a trademark. In 1911 they also became the outfitters for Roald Amundsen, the first man to reach the South Pole, and Ernest Shackleton, who lead a 1914 expedition to cross Antarctica.

In 1914 Burberry was appointed by the War Office to adapt its officer's coat, the result was the modern day "trench coat" that became after the war, popular with civilians. The iconic Burberry check was created in the 1920's and used as a lining in its trench coats. Over the years, it has been popularized by Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca, Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther films and Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. In 1967 the Burberry Check, now a registered trademark, was widely used on its own for items including umbrellas, scarves and luggage.

Christopher Bailey is now Design Director of the largest British luxury brand. Born in 1971, Bailey graduated from the BA Fashion Design course at The University of Westminster in 1990, before going on to attend London's Royal College of Art, he graduated with a Masters in Fashion in 1994. Moved to New York and worked for designer Donna Karan before becoming Senior Designer for Gucci womenswear in 1996. Christopher Bailey was awarded British Fashion Designer of the Year in 2005. Since his arrival at the label, Burberry has earned a record $167 million in profits

Dolce & Gabbana

Top Designers - Dolce & Gabbana

Domenico Dolce was born on September 13, 1958 and grew up in a small Sicilian village, studied fashion design and worked for his family's small clothing factory. Stefano Gabbana was born on November 14, 1962 in Venice, Italy, grew up in Milan and studied graphic design.

The legendary duo of Dolce & Gabbana first met in 1980 while working as assistants in an atelier in Milan. The two went into business together two years later and continued to do free-lance designing for others.

They held their first solo women's wear fashion show in 1986, but it was not until the goddess herself Madonna wore one of their shirts in her movie "Truth or dare: In bed with Madonna" that they become known worldwide. Madonna loves the duo so much that in 1993 she had them exclusively design 1500 costumes for her "Girlie show" world tour.

Dolce & Gabbana designs draw inspiration from Mediterranean colors, culture and classic southern Italian cinema of the 40's & 50's, their inspirational figures include Italian beauties Sophia Loren and Anna Magnani; all illustrates how their collections are always romantic, voluptuous and sensual. Later on their signature pieces were the sexy corset dresses, gangster pinstripe suits, sexy black suits, empire line jackets and floral embroidered coats continuing to flatter the female body in a glamorous modern feel.

Loved by fashion magazines and the number one choice of Hollywood stars & music artists such as Monica Bellucci, Isabella Rossellini, Kylie Minogue, Mary J. Blige, Whitney Houston, Angelina Jolie and Madonna. Overseeing a true fashion empire, Dolce & Gabbana became one of Italy's most important and successful ready-to-wear fashion houses.

Milan ?

Milan

The Tokyo Hardcore tour began in Milan during S/S 08 Fashion Week with a party at our new flagship Milano store. While in Milan I also attended the BluGirl show and met the amazing Anna Molinari who is the embodiment of cute with the sweetest smile and pixie voice. I also spent an afternoon hanging out with the very charming legendary Elio Fiorucci, the godfather of glossy, sexy, irreverent style. We discussed our favorite designer Barbara Hulanicki of Biba and then went on a tour of his Love Therapy headquarters. Later I attended the Cloudnine trend show where I discovered the fantastic plastic world of Melissa shoes and spoke to a group of uber talented future designers at the Whats Next exhibition. Then there was the Elle & Marie Claire Black and White party and finally our Tokyo Hardcore tour began with the first launch party at our brand new beautiful boutique in Milano. These “moviettes” will take you along on my journey and give you a behind the scenes look into the stylish world of Milan fashion week.
